Because the rounded tip doesn't penetrate the fibers, but pushes them aside, blunt needles are particularly suitable for embroidery with coarser materials like wool. Needles with a symmetrically perforated eyelet are made of hardened, burr-free steel. When threading thicker yarns or wool, the eyelet is kept correspondingly large on embroidery needles.
